Veil Memories

KI 226 KI 228 KI 227

I had a front row seat there in the bathroom while Lindsay was getting ready. The moment became profound indeed as Lindsay told me how she remembered them putting the veil "in my head" 21 years ago when she was our flower girl. She thought they were sticking it right into my head because I was making a face! The memory came full circle as I took this picture of her face as they stuck the veil in her head.

Beautiful Island Wedding

This past weekend, I went to the wedding of my cousin Lindsay on Kelleys Island. What a fun and unforgettable time it was! Today, I picked a few pictures to highlight and hopefully I can post more this week.

ArtPrize

Perhaps you have heard of ArtPrize, the world's largest art prize, which will be taking place in Grand Rapids September 23 to October 10. Our church, MCC, applied to be a venue. We chose 18 artists who wanted to show their artwork in our space and who created art that we thought brought glory to God. This past weekend, John & I helped to install some of the art and met some of the artists who are showing their work. Most of the work has been installed and our worship space has been transformed.

Mixer

Self-Double Portrait by Maria

Today, the girls had the "mixer" today at the high school where Maria is a senior and Bridget is a freshman. As Bridget was looking at the above picture, I heard her say, we really do look alike. Apparently, she has been hearing that a lot now that they're in the same school again!

Going Nuts!

almonds
The almonds that call out my name every day at 5pm

Usually, I'm so hungry I can hardly make it to supper. This is the time of day when I eat my "5 daily almonds" to get some vitamin E, magnesium, potassium, zinc, iron, fibre and monounsaturated fat. Except, I usually end up eating at least 10. Today, I expanded their pleasure by taking a photograph. Mmmm-mmm.

Stepping Into a Different River

Heraclitus said "You can't step into the same river twice." One thing I love about photographing them is the way they always change - the light, the flow, the reflections - according to the angle, shutter speed, aperture, time of day, etc. so they are an endless photographic study. We're done going there for awhile though, but I'm already imagining the possibilities when the colors change.

A River Runs Through It

After we moved Edward back to Calvin, we commenced a restful Labor Day weekend. Sunday afternoon, John & I went up north to the Rogue River where he could fly fish and I could take pictures for a couple of hours.

Back At It

ed vw1

I didn't realize I would feel such deja-vu today when we moved Edward back to the dorms at Calvin. He moved into Vander Werp hall which is the guys half of the dorm where I was an RA. If any of you were RAs in college, you know how you can always recognize another RA later in life. It's true. This year, when we met his RA, I held it in... it was so hard! Edward & Maria both thought it was strange that I was holding it in, they could tell, but I didn't want to embarrass Ed like I thought I did last year. He told me it would have been okay.

Happy Birthday to John ♫♪♫♪

A little late here... we are now finished with the celebration! We had fun with John's favorite food, angel food cake, candles, singing, and presents. Oh, and long exposures on the tripod with the cable release which caused great laughter for some reason. Oh yeah, they were laughing at my un-wireless technology!

Tradition

Back when Edward graduated, I did this picture display of all his first days of school. When I had it out at his graduation open house, a friend of ours who is a Principal no less, told me I had OCD. And here I am, still doin' it...
