Thirty Fifth Annual Fifth Third River Bank Run

That's a mouthful!  This race is the championship 25K in the country and the largest.  John ran the 25K for the 7th time with 7000 other runners this past Saturday.  They also have a 5K and 10K.

I took this one at the start, but I didn't have my camera at the finish when he came in at 2:00.53. His best finish ever!

Happy Labor Day

John & I are laboring on Labor Day - painting Bridget's bedroom - but we did take time to celebrate his birthday this past weekend.  Edward & Maria joined us from Calvin for supper and cake Saturday night.

Northern Michigan Adventure

07-11 platte lake-7052.jpg
This past weekend, we visited John's sister & brother-in-law at their cottage up north. We celebrated their 29th anniversary with them with a 2 hour kayak trip on the Platte River. Bridget took the above pic as we pulled in after sunset and I also managed to get one of her after the sun set. unfortunately, I didn't take any others this weekend. Such beautiful country!

Epic OBX!

Sorry to be using the overused term "epic", but that's what I might call this photo ...

obx dc 2011-5394.jpg

John, Bridget & I enjoyed a fun, relaxing time with the family this past week at the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Very fun. We captured our little family pic, too...

Edward had a little bout with poison Ivy while we were gone, but was able to visit the doctor and get some prednisone to take care of it. We were glad to see him in one piece when we got home.

Post 1500, Becoming Vintage

IMG_4856

When we saw Maria this past Sunday, she asked us to bring her winter coat. We did do that, but John gave her a bonus... his vintage jean jacket from his Calvin years. She was pretty proud! I think. And yes, this is post 1500!

The Halloween Raking Weekend

Last year, these really fun ghosts came to our yard to rake up the leaves. I'm wondering if they'll come back this year. The leaves are so much prettier and it's a beautiful day, so I'm thinking they just might!!!

So Much to See

It's hard to take it all in, but I'll keep blogging slowly along! We went into the Cathedral Square Exhibition Center and saw the piece of a friend of a friend of a friend. With my 50mm lens, I could only get the middle of each painting.

We saw this one nearby and John overheard the artist say she paints mostly food. Lately, she has been painting mostly cinnamon rolls.

We later walked over to the BOB and loved looking at this one - actually, I loved taking John's picture in front of it because it looked like he was looking for his way out of the woods.

Love Thursday

Vermont 164-1
One evening last week, we went on a 3 hour cruise on Lake Champlain. It was a perfect evening aboard the "Spirit of Ethan Allen" and we dressed rather nautically quite by accident. We met people from all over who came to the conference John attended... the people who were at our table were from Barbados and Bermuda.

Vermont 162-1
It looks like we found a couple of different people to take our picture with my camera. They all said I won the biggest camera award. Maybe they were really thinking I won the "one who is nuts enough to lug a big camera aboard a ship" award.

Vermont 183-1
But see,,, I had it just in time for another fantastic sunset over the Green Mts.

Vermont 185-1
Amen.

And the Moon Rose Up Over the Green Mts.

We left Church street after a good supper and good music, feeling pretty good. We went down to the harbor on Lake Champlain and saw the sun set...

And then, to add to the good times, the moon rose up over those Green Mountains as we headed back...

Old Roomie

On our way last week to John's conference in Burlington, VT, we took a detour through Albany, NY so we could see my old college roommate Linda and her husband Joe. A few years ago, they bought a house that was built in 1857 on the Hudson River in a little town called Coeymans and are in the process of restoring it into a B & B. We began our evening by going to a restaurant down the river. I took this one with a tripod and we tried to act natural.

Vermont 012-4

Here is what the house looks like from their backyard.

Vermont 025-1

Most of the house has been completely gutted. The bedrooms upstairs though were "sleepable" and the bathroom was usable. Joe did construction for 25 years before his current job as a nurse so he is very capable! Linda has been working on the garden.

Vermont 019-1

I got a kick out of the hydrangeas in a vase in the midst of it all.

Vermont 018-2

We stood for another tripod shot before we left the next morning. What was really awesome is we were able to see it in this stage so we'll have something to compare it to when we come again.

Vermont 032-1

We also needed to have a roomie shot. You can see the Hudson River out back where huge ships often go by.
