Last Friday night, John and I got home at 2:30am (we are not wild, we were just helping some friends move :) ) The shadows out in the backyard were caused only by the moonlight, and it looked really strange...
Jewels; Don brought my attention to the fact that our December full moon was the brightest full moon of the year because the moon was the closest to the earth of the twelve months this year. May was the least bright because it was the most distant. The moon was so bright in San Diego it was almost like daylight. Amazing and beautiful!
Deirdre, so it was late and I was tired, but I had to get this shot! And I was way too tired to get the tripod out, so I set the ISO to 800 and hand held it by the window. I remember the shutter speed was about 30 at probably f/2.0 but I'm not sure about that. I did some sharpening in photoshop b/c it was pretty fuzzy.
I would love to see it again and take it with a tripod!

Was that seriously the light (sky) at 2:30a? I love the shadows, but am fascinated by how light the sky is. And, J, you ARE wild!!! :)
Gracie - The sky may be a bit lighter in this pic than it was in real life, but the combo of the moon and the snow made it unusually light out there!
sure ...i think it is wild to be moving at that time!! tee hee ...the photo is gorgeous

Interesting ... and quite surreal looking too.
It is beautiful though! I'm glad you were able to capture it.
Pretty photo!
See, aren't you glad you were up at 2:30am so that you could get that photo.
Let me know if you ever want to stay up late again.
Ok this is a STUNNING picture. :) Can you share the settings? And did you use a tripod?
I applaud you - don't think that I could stay up until o'dark thirty. :)
