they're falling in love with the ground.”

Laguna Beach

california-3511-1
We were last here in 1999 with our 3 little kids.  How times change!  It's still a beautiful beach.

card-

It's hard to believe last March 19 I was out taking this photo!  This year we are still looking at a big glacier in our front yard at the side of the road.

Life!

"Every spring is the only spring, a perpetual astonishment." (Ellis Peters)

It's early March and we know there could be a snow storm around the corner. This is Michigan, after all, but it sure feels like Spring is here!

My Own Front Yard

“We don’t have to go far to find the treasure we are seeking. There is beauty and goodness right where we are. And only when we can see the beauty and goodness that are close by can we recognize beauty and goodness on our travels far and wide. There are trees and flowers to enjoy, paintings and sculptures to admire; most of all there are people who smile, play, and show kindness and gentleness. They are all around us, to be recognized as free gifts to receive in gratitude."  -Henri Nouwen

A Rose is a Rose

ap 11-9265

I was walking by the front window the other morning and just noticed the sun falling on our old roses.

We Saw an Eagle!!

eagle-7705

We were up by Wabassis Lake last weekend and John, who is always on the lookout for wildlife, heard about the eagle there. We found the nest first, and then spotted the eagle in all its glory! Amazing!

... and they laid their little heads down

Our peonies had hardly been out for a day when a driving rainstorm came one night.

The blossoms that do not have a bush nearby to lay on are hanging kind of upside down...

But I think they still shout out "Hello!"

Baby Bird

bubbles-4934.jpg

Edward & I saw this baby bird in our front yard last night. When he wasn't there anymore today, John said (joking) I hope Leo enjoyed him. Ew! Maybe he just flew away! I think it's a baby cardinal...

This is the week of Tulip Time over in Holland, Michigan. To celebrate, I took some pictures of my own tulips out in the garden. Cheers!

Soon, the Flowers are Coming

random-3000.jpg
Let the rain kiss you.
Let the rain beat upon your head with silver liquid drops.
Let the rain sing you a lullaby.
The rain makes still pools on the sidewalk.
The rain makes running pools in the gutter.
The rain plays a little sell-song on our roof at night--
And I love the rain.
- Langston Hughes, 1902-1967, April Rain Song

Behold the Birds

Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?

Super Moon!

moon-2183.jpg

During the full moon on March 19th 2011 the moon was only 221,565 miles (356,575 kilometers) away.... the closest it’s been in almost 20 years! It appeared 14 percent bigger and 30% brighter than usual. I didn't get a photo at moonrise which would have been cool, but I did get one around 11 pm after stepping out in my bare feet in the front yard!
