In June of 1990, John & I & 6 month old baby Eddie were among a quarter of a million people in Boston in the Charles River Esplanade to hear Nelson Mandela just 4 months after he was released from prison. I'm briefly in this video behind the stroller at about 30 sec. then Edward at about a minute, then you can hear children singing and then Lady Blacksmith Mambazo singing and then Nelson Mandela speaking. A little better view starts at around 4:40... you may not hear much but the atmosphere was exciting!

Love Thursday: Good-bye Edward

We had about 3 hours with Edward on Tuesday evening before he and John left for Seattle where Ed will begin his new job at Microsoft.  We made the best of it and met the girls over at Calvin for a good-bye supper at Johnny's!


They packed Edward's car full and were in Fargo, ND for lunch the next day and spent that night in Billings, MT!

Notre Dame

John & I made a quick trip to Notre Dame this weekend since Edward had rushed down for orientation Thursday. He had not even had a chance to decompress after coming home from Germany Wednesday night after midnight.  We brought him his clothes and a dresser and other things and got him a bed for the house he's living in with friends.  We took a quick ride around campus and took a few photos in the midday sun!

We stopped by their huge bookstore for some spirit.


And got a bed...


And showed some spirit in front of the house where Ed is living!

Run Eddie, Run...

Well, I thought that once Edward graduated and moved over to Germany for the summer, I would be done with the running posts.  Not so.  He ran in the Mittel-Rhein 10K this past weekend and we found some great photos of him online!


It made me happy to see them cheer him on!

Well, his final time was 36 min 46 sec for  the 10K.

We had a wonderful weekend celebrating the culmination of Edward's engineering program at Calvin College with his Senior Design presentation.  Information about their project is here.
